EQUALITY, Diversity and Inclusion
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is important to us.
Climate Leaders come from all backgrounds, all walks of life and have different lived experiences. We want everyone to feel welcomed, supported and represented as we work together to create a just and sustainable society. We know there are barriers to participating in climate action and we are working together to dismantle them. We will keep learning, reflecting and challenging ourselves along the way.
Our Participation Fund
We cannot tackle the climate emergency without also tackling inequality. We understand that there can be financial barriers to taking part in activities, so we have a fund to support everyone to be able to attend our events. Our “Participation Fund” refers to funding provided to attendees of our events/projects to help make sure they are not excluded from participating due to financial constraints.
The Participation Fund covers (but is not limited to) items such as:
Transport - we always encourage people to use public transport but understand this does not always meet an individual’s needs
Accommodation - if you need to travel a long distance we can support overnight accommodation to break up your journey
Childcare costs - raising the future generation is a big deal we want parents included in shaping the world their children will inherit
Costs associated with temporary digital connections to allow individuals to join virtually should this be a preferred format.
The Participation Fund operates by reimbursing costs incurred for any participation in a 2050 Climate Group event/project. If however, you are unable to afford the costs we can purchase the items needed on your behalf. Details of how to claim through the Participation Fund will be shared directly with attendees of any 2050 Climate Group event.
Partnerships
When it comes to the climate crisis and social justice, no one can do it all alone BUT we can work together for a better future for everyone.
At 2050 Climate Group we’re always keen to partner with organisations and individual young people. One of our 5 values is Inclusion and it is a core element of everything we do. While we often draw on the lived experience of our volunteers and staff we also work with external individuals and organisations to ensure we’re getting diverse and intersectional input. We have partnered with organisations for specific events, and workshops or generally collaborate and communicate to ensure we’re including everyone in the climate movement. We have also worked with corporate and government bodies as well as educational institutions to support bringing the voice of young people into conversations about our climate.
Some of our partnerships/collaborations relating to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) include:
If you’re part of an organisation or an individual with an interest in collaborating on a short or long-term project please get in touch!
Anti-Racism
At 2050 Climate Group, we are 1 of 161 organisations that participated in The RACE Report, the UK’s largest analysis of racial diversity in the environmental charity sector.
The RACE Report aims to boost transparency and encourage action amongst UK environmental charities and funders when it comes to the racial and ethnic diversity of their workforce and governing bodies. Since 2017, the RACE Report has revealed that racial diversity across the environmental sector is still below the UK workforce average, highlighting the importance of efforts across the sector to ensure a more inclusive future.
The 2024 report had a record high of data submitted from 161 organisations – representing over 28,600 employees.
Key takeaways:
🚨4.5% of staff overall, across 159 organisations, identify as people of colour*
🚨4.8% of senior leaders, across 131 organisations, identify as people of colour*
🚨10.1% of governance/trustee board members, across 115 organisations, identify as people of colour*
We encourage all organisations in the environmental sector to join us in striving for racial equity, inclusion, and justice because a more diverse sector is essential for tackling the climate crisis.
