The 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) took place in Glasgow, Scotland between 31st October and 12th November 2021. The UN Climate Summit hosted 30,000 delegates from 196 countries, including World Leaders to discuss global action on climate change. 2050 Climate Group attended COP26 as official observers in the Blue Zone, as well as hosting our own event in the Green Zone on ‘Youth and Public Empowerment’ Day and speaking at a number of surrounding events. Let’s talk cop26 ZINE

 
 

2050 Climate Group is proud to present this zine, ‘Let’s Talk COP26’, which is a representation of the themes and visions explored at our Youth Summit on the 4th of September 2021. This event brought young people together with youth climate activists, climate organisations, and industry leaders to discuss 5 themes on the COP26 presidency programme: nature-based solutions, clean road transport, energy transitions, finance, and adaptation and resilience.

Conference of Youth - COY16

The Scottish Government hosted the UN Climate Change Conference of Youth (COY) which is run by YOUNGO - The Official Youth Constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Over 400 youth delegates from 120 countries attended, 5 of whom from Scotland including 2050 Climate Group volunteer, Bethany Tallis.

BBC Scotland COP26 Debate Night Special

COP26 special live from Glasgow, discussed the big questions that affect Scotland. The Audience, including 2050 Climate Group’s Kate Chambers, Alex Reid and Eve Redhead put their questions to panelists regarding youth involvement in decision-making.

Visions of Tomorrow for a Sustainable Future in Scotland and Malawi

2050 Climate Group held an event in the COP26 Green Zone during ‘Youth and Public Empowerment’ Day. The event discussed stories of climate action and young people’s key asks for COP26.

 

Institutional Activism: Tacking the climate crisis through your organisation

The climate crisis reaches every corner of society and every business, organisation and industry has a role to play in building a better, greener, and more sustainable future. The panel of 4 institutional activists, including Young Leaders Development Programme volunteer and Scottish Power employee David Smith, discussed how they are an activist within the workplace and the impact they are having.

SCVO The Role of Non-Environmental Charities in the Just Transition to Net Zero

SCVO held an event to celebrate and explore the role of non-environmental organisations in the just transition to net zero. Finalists of this year’s Climate Conscious Scottish Charity Award, including 2050 Climate Group Sarah McArthur, spoke about what they are doing as organisation to tackle climate change.

Scottish Government - Loss and Damage Youth Dialogue

2050 Climate Group representatives attended Scottish Government’s event which facilitated real time dialogue on what Loss and Damage means to youth – those most likely to feel the impact of climate change - in both the Global South and North. This event built on a wider programme of Scottish Government work looking at Loss and Damage and how the Scottish Government will respond.

 

Scotland's COP26 Climate Tech Showcase (SCDI and ScotlandIS)

ScotlandIS, SCDI and Scottish Enterprise are presented a thought leadership panel, focusing on the role of Climate Technologies in Scotland’s journey towards our 2045 targets. The panel included 2050 Climate Group Chair, Lucy Stanfield.

Decoupling Advisory Group Film Launch

This event explored themes in the Decoupling Report, produced by Zero Waste Scotland and its Decoupling Advisory Group and looks at how we can support GDP growth by focusing on a circular and wellbeing economy. The session will asked important and bold questions that will addressed an uncomfortable truth – we need to change our relationship with consumption and our approach to economic and business models. Kate Chambers, 2050 Climate Group Trustee, will speak at the event.

My Fashion Path: Re-Clothing the Future Conference

The Sustainable Fashion Festival: Re-Clothing the Future Conference, gathered students & young people, sustainable fashion business and policymakers together to empower young people to shape the future of the fashion industry. Showcasing Scotland’s sustainable fashion industry and highlighting the career opportunities within the fashion and manufacturing industries.
