Guest Blog: Malawi and Scotland Partnership ready to host a historical COP26 Hub.

By Chifundo Zingunde (Malawi Climate Leader)

A sigh of relief to Young Malawians as Malawi Scotland Partnership (MaSP) will for the first time in history allow young climate leaders to follow the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference number (COP26) through workshops and discussions in Lilongwe, Malawi. COP26, which calls for world leaders to negotiate responses to a climate change, is taking place in Glasgow, Scotland limiting young Malawians ability to physically attend the discussions.

With that in mind MaSP supported by 2050 Climate Group will for the first time set up a 12-day COP26 Hub at Ufulu Gardens, Llonwe from 1 to 12 November where over 200 people are expected to attend.

According to MaSP Chief Executive Officer, Stella Masangano the hub will enable young people to follow the deliberations at the conference with interpretation of the sessions from negotiators and delegates.

“We believe the hub will shape young people’s understanding of COP and will contribute to sharpening their abilities to advocate for sustainable and comprehensive climate interventions […] The hub will also be available virtually to allow all interested youth to join in all sessions covered by the hub on a national and international level and will enable us to showcase our COP26 voices, which is a series of videos recorded by our Young Climate Leaders on COP26.” - Stella Masangano, MaSP CEO.

Meanwhile Malawi's  President Lazarus Chakwera is expected to deliver a speech at the conference in Glasgow.
