2050x Fund

2050 Climate Group’s Leaders Network run a funding initiative called 2050x. Through the 2050x Fund, 2050 Climate Group offers financial support for projects aiming to tackle an aspect of climate change. This unique opportunity is open to all 18 - 35 year olds, based in Scotland, who have a project idea that requires some extra resources and support.

Successful applicants receive a financial contribution, as well as support from the 2050 Climate Group, which can provide climate change expertise from a broad range of sectors and access to a wide network of contacts. This financial support could be anywhere from £50 to £1,000 depending on the funding needed, and each application will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

What should 2050x projects want to achieve?

2050x projects should be aligned with the 2050 Climate Group’s charitable purpose, that is the education, engagement and empowerment of the next generation of leaders to take action on climate change and the advancement of education on climate change and leadership skills. Beyond this condition, projects may be wide ranging and we will consider all applications.

Funding is available for a wide range of purposes, including venue space, catering, travel expenses and other materials. We’re open to ideas so if you’re unsure if what you have in mind is eligible for funding, just ask!

While we encourage applicants to have a clear idea of their project aims and desired outcomes before applying, please do contact us at actions@2050.scot even if your idea is not complete and we will try to support you to develop the idea into a strong application.

How are applications assessed?

Every application is marked by at least two members of the 2050 Climate Group team (operational volunteers, trustees and/or staff). Markers assess the extent to which the application aligns with our organisation’s values (innovative, inspirational, brave, inclusive and collaborative). Final decisions are made by our volunteer 2050x Lead(s), with support from staff, based on the marking alongside the eligibility of the project and the funds available.

All applications are assessed anonymously as part of our commitment to minimise unconscious bias.

Funding details

You must be aged between 18 to 35 year olds, and located in Scotland in order to apply for 2050x funding. Current 2050 Climate Group trustees and staff members are not eligible to apply for 2050x funding.

We expect all 2050x projects to abide by our sustainability policy. For example, by using responsible suppliers, low-carbon transport methods and vegetarian (vegan where possible) catering. Full details of our sustainability commitments are available here: https://www.2050.scot/sustainability-statement

This funding is available to reimburse project costs on production of receipts, and not available as an upfront payment. If this might cause an issue, for example due to financial circumstances, we will work with you to find a solution that works for you and your project.

If successful in receiving funding, projects will be required to complete a blog post summarising the project, how you got on, what challenges you faced, what difference you think you made and how the 2050 Climate Group helped you achieve this.

Any questions, please email actions@2050.scot.
